Shearwater cruising under the cliffs of Cilan

"Shearwater" cruising under the cliffs of Cilan

"Shearwater" is a 50ft. 'Powerglide 50' catamaran cruiser, built for us by Power-Catamarans Ltd. of Wadebridge, Cornwall and following final sea trials, we sailed her up to Pwllheli, from Padstow, in Cornwall, on 13 May 2010.

"Shearwater" is a completely unique vessel. Having the opportunity to have a boat built with our own design ideas and features, we were able to call upon the experience gained in operating our previous vessel along the Llyn Peninsula, running charters and cruises since 2001.

There are two deck levels. The first level has a stern deck passenger seating area, toilet compartment, galley, lounge and forward viewing area.

For those interested in the technical side, "Shearwater" has twin Iveco 400 hp 6 cylinder diesel engines, her gross weight is almost 20 tons with twin fuel tanks holding 1300 liters of fuel. The electrical system is 24 volts, the navigation systems are mainly Garmin with a 4 kw 38 mile digital radar and the latest 3D plotter graphics. Our 2 main radios are Raymarine, as is our Loud Hailer. Separate battery banks service engine starting and domestic power, with most domestic equipment, such as water boiler, fridge, microwave etc. running on 230 volt ac from the large inverter. We also have a 3.5 kw generator, available for emergency power back-up.

We have also positioned a TV monitor in the lounge to enable our guests to see all the navigation information the skipper is currently watching on the Control deck above (Chart/Radar/Sonar etc.) and also pictures from our Underwater colour video camera.
